Hello everyone and welcome to the programme on Organisational Design for Digital Transformation. My name is Stella Pachidi and I'm Assistant Professor in Information Systems at Judge Business School at the University of Cambridge. I am very excited to be delivering this programme to you as the topic speaks right into my heart.

I have always been passionate about technology. As a matter of fact, my first degree was in computer engineering, while I then specialised in business informatics and in developing analytics techniques to help organisations resolve their problems. This background enabled me to deeply understand the opportunities offered by digital technologies in organisations.

In my interactions with businesses though, I soon understood that technology alone is not sufficient to resolve problems. Introducing a new digital technology has ripple effects across all aspects of a business. It affects the strategy, business model, but also the structure, culture of the organisation, finances and its workforce. Those insights drove me to get a PhD and do research in the field of information systems, aiming to better understand how digital technologies affect work and organising and how organisations can successfully implement them.

In this programme, I intend to share insights from my research with you and provide the conceptual tools to understand and assess the potential impact of the fast-paced developments in digital technologies on your businesses and help you prepare how to lead your organisation successfully in the digital era. I invite you to see this programme on digital transformation as your own transformation journey.

I say it quite often: Digital transformation is about people transformation. And you as a leader also need to transform your thinking and approach. So given this philosophy, that is how we have set up the module together with my colleagues Dr Shasha Lu and Dr Karla Sayegh, whom you will see in the next modules.

First we will dive into the nature and the organisational elements of digital transformation. Then in the next two modules, you will analyse the external impact of digital transformation. Dr Shasha Lu, Associate Professor in Marketing at Cambridge Judge Business School, will guide you into how digital technologies transform your customer engagement. Then Dr Karla Sayegh, Assistant Professor in Organisation Theory and Information Systems at Cambridge Judge Business School, will focus on how digital transformation affects your competitive strategy.

In the last three modules, we will look at what this means for organisations internally. In Module 4, Dr Karla Sayegh will discuss how digital transformation affords but also calls for new ways of innovating, such as open innovation. In Module 5, I will guide you through the impact of digital transformation on work and organising. And finally in Module 6, I will help you dive into the practicalities of managing the digital transformation. I am looking forward to guiding you through this fascinating journey of learning and personal development.
