Hello, my name is John Kim and I'm a full-time faculty here at Emory's Goizueta Business School, here in Atlanta, Georgia in the United States. Look forward to this course.
We have some great content with you. I've done my best to try to distill the most important things in ways that would be easy to remember. I have 25 years’ experience, 12 of that in management consulting, six as a health care consultant, and then the last six years or so teaching here at Emory. It's great fun.
And a couple thoughts. Number one, I'm very proud of you for embarking on this journey. In addition to health care being very important, it's one-fifth of the US economy, and there are many parts of it that are changing, whether it's reimbursements and regulations or going from fee for service to fee for value, the transition to a very ambulatory setting, all of these things matter. We will take the angle and the view of strategy as well as the triple aim to guide what we're talking about.
The second thing I would say is my sister is a pediatric nurse and my brother-in-law is a surgeon. So, I personally see how hard they work, how tired they are, and also how this system called health care many times gets in their way of doing patient care. And patient care is so important and we need more of it, not less of it. So, our ability to think as chief medical officers and chief nursing officers and health care executives to solve these problems for our clinical teams to deliver care, is entirely the point of this training.
So, once again, my name is John Kim and I look forward to working with you during the course of these modules.
