Amy Nyberg has been passionate about using digital tools to improve healthcare processes for more than two decades. But as digital platforms became more widespread and powerful, she saw an opportunity and a responsibility to go deeper. That desire to enhance and expand her knowledge led her to enroll in the Digital Transformation Program for Senior Executives, an executive education program offered by the Wharton School.

“One of the major lessons I learned was the importance of leading change while balancing the demands of today’s business.” — Amy Nyberg

What began as a search for new insights turned into a transformational learning journey. Amy gained clarity and inspiration from learning to balance innovation with current operations and connecting with global peers from other industries. The program is designed to explore cutting-edge trends and topics, including artificial intelligence, evolving business models, and leadership during digital disruption.

In this interview, she reflects on what drew her to this digital strategy course, what she learned, and how it’s shaping her perspective on the future of healthcare.

Q: What inspired you to join this educational program with Wharton Executive Education?

Amy Nyberg: I have been interested in using digital tools to enable better processes and healthcare for 20 years. And with the advent of digital platforms becoming more ubiquitous, I have been interested in developing different digital platforms or enhancing the ones that we have. So I wanted to learn more about that and came upon this program and became interested in it, given its focus on digital strategies and insights from industry experts.

Q: What were some of your major learnings from the program?

Amy Nyberg: One of the major lessons I learned was the importance of leading change while balancing the demands of today’s business. You must carefully manage your energy and invest in immediate priorities and future innovations that may take three, five, or even 10 years to bear fruit. The program emphasized the need to begin those long-term investments now, even if the return isn’t immediate.

Q: How did interacting and networking with global peers enhance your learning experience?

Amy Nyberg: This was also a pleasant surprise of the Wharton Digital Transformation Program, as I got to know many people in other parts of the world and industries. I have connected with many of them on LinkedIn. I have met some of them here in person, which has been a treat, but to learn from other industries and hear their unique digital transformation challenges and innovations has been incredibly enriching.

I am in healthcare, and we often lag behind other industries for good reason. Before adopting them in a sector, you want to ensure that it could be life or death if something works or does not. But seeing how those other industries have matured with digital transformation and other forms of innovation helps us as an industry see into our future.

Besides the personal professional relationships and networking, it was especially valuable to gain deeper insights into others’ industry experiences and understand the direction their sectors are heading.

Q: How important was the Wharton brand in your decision to enroll in this course?

Amy Nyberg: Wharton is a well-respected and well-known name, and that’s undoubtedly what initially caught my eye. But I investigated many programs from many other brand-name institutions, and I chose Wharton not only because of the respect for the name but also because of the content. As I got to know the faculty, I was impressed with their academic and industry experience. And I could learn more from them than some of the other digital strategy courses I investigated.

Amy Nyberg’s journey reflects the kind of forward-thinking leadership skills that the healthcare industry increasingly demands. Her experience with Wharton’s Digital Transformation Program for Senior Executives deepened her understanding of innovation and change management and broadened her perspective through global, cross-industry collaboration. As she continues to lead with insight and intent, Amy’s story underscores the value of executive learning in navigating complex transformations.
